Grenfell Tower Inquiry

Public Inquiry (2017–2024)

Ratio Decidendi

Systemic failures in fire safety regulation, building control, and the use of combustible cladding materials contributed to the Grenfell Tower disaster. Manufacturers, certifiers, and regulators all bore responsibility.

Fapte

On 14 June 2017, a fire at Grenfell Tower in North Kensington killed 72 people. The fire spread rapidly due to combustible ACM cladding and inadequate fire safety measures. A public inquiry was established to examine the circumstances.

Rezumatul hotărârii

Phase 2 of the inquiry (2024) found that the disaster was the result of decades of failure by central government, manufacturers who engaged in deliberate and sustained strategies to manipulate testing processes, and the building control system that failed to identify dangerous materials.

Citate cheie

"The simple truth is that the deaths that occurred were all avoidable."
